This market asks whether Ethereum will fall out of the top two cryptocurrencies by market value at any point during 2026. Because the rule is based on CoinGecko rankings, the key issue is not where ETH finishes the year, but whether it ever slips to third place or lower even briefly. That makes it a watchlist market for anyone tracking the relative strength of Ethereum against the broader crypto market.
The title refers to Ethereum, the blockchain network and native ETH token that has usually been one of the largest digital assets by market capitalization. Here, “flipped in 2026” means Ethereum is no longer ranked first or second among cryptocurrencies on CoinGecko at any time between January 1 and December 31, 2026 ET. The market resolves “Yes” if that happens at least once; otherwise it resolves “No.”
Ethereum’s ranking can move when ETH underperforms a rival token, when another large crypto rallies sharply, or when market capitalization calculations shift across the sector. Readers care because Ethereum is one of the most closely watched assets in crypto, and its place in the rankings is often treated as a quick gauge of sentiment, adoption, and relative dominance. The disagreement in this market is really about whether ETH can stay ahead of the pack throughout the year or whether some competitor will overtake it long enough to trigger the rule.
Price can move if Ethereum’s market cap changes relative to Bitcoin, stablecoins, or other large-cap tokens that are close behind it. A sharp ETH rally would make a flip less likely, while a strong move in a competing asset, a broad rotation away from ETH, or a sudden change in market conditions could push the market toward a “Yes” outcome. Because the rule is triggered by any point during the year, even a short-lived ranking change matters, not just the year-end leaderboard.

View marketThe current market price implies roughly a 100% chance for the leading outcome, based on live Polymarket pricing. That number is not a prediction from PredictionNinja and it is not a guarantee; it is the current crowd-priced view of the market and can change quickly when new information appears.
The source of truth is CoinGecko, so readers should watch the live market-cap rankings there rather than relying on headlines or exchange prices alone. The key ambiguity is whether Ethereum ever appears below second place at any moment during 2026 ET, and that is what ultimately decides the market. If CoinGecko becomes unavailable, the rules allow another credible source to be chosen, and if there is still ambiguity, a consensus of credible reporting will be used.

This market will resolve to "Yes" if Ethereum (ETH) is not the second or first largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization at any point between January 1, and December 31, 2026 ET, according to CoinGecko.
